Friends, Food and Fun at Harvest Grille

Red Riders attended the first of many diabetic friendly get-togethers put together by American Diabetes Association.

Attendees received gift bags containing t-shirts and information on upcoming events.

The first Red Striders and Red Riders get-together took place on Monday, June 11th at Harvest Live Grille and Bar. The party began at 6 p.m.  as everyone found their seats and the cooking demo and tasting,  presented by Chef Eddy Sierra, commenced.

Red Strider Sub-committee chairs, Cherie Jones and David Doyle kicked off the evening with a welcome announcement and a group discussion of the challenges diabetics face on a daily basis, such as David’s battle with the temptation of ice cream calling to him from the frozen section of the grocery store.

Smiles and laughter grew as the table of strangers transformed into a group of friends, and Chef Eddy ventured to the table to explain why and how each sample of food was healthy. Bill Ferguson, Red Strider enduring Type 1 diabetes, described mingling and having a few laughs as the best part of the evening.

The evening’s dishes consisted of delicious diabetic friendly foods from Harvest’s regular totally organic menu, including: Detox Chips, Edamame Dumplings, Detox Salad, Chicken Skewers with Grilled Asparagus and Sugar-free Amaretto Cheesecake. With many clean plates leaving the table, Harvest can expect to see many of Monday night’s attendees back again for seconds.

“I’d definitely recommend it to diabetics and friends with varying dietary needs and food allergies,” Said Ferguson.

We hope to see even more Red Striders and Red Riders coming together at future events to build enduring friendships and support alliances to lean on.
