Golfing with a Goal

Republic National Distributing Company held their 7th annual golf tournament benefitting the American Diabetes Association on March 26 at Pine Forest Country Club.

According to Irwin Sivin, Division Manager at RNDC, because the event has grown significantly since the first golf tournament at Longwood Golf Course in 2006, this year’s fund raising goal of $30,000 was surpassed by 27.3% with ease.

“Our supplier partners have been great supporters, and the number of golfers from in and outside our industry has grown each year, as has our contributions to the ADA.  In 2012, we wrote a check to the ADA for $38,200. We also increased exposure regarding what diabetes is about, putting information in our players’ goodie bags, and having representatives with the ADA on a hole with more information on the disease. Our RNDC planning team also wore red diabetes shirts, reminding everyone why we were out there. It’s really about raising money for the cause, not about RNDC,” said Sivin.

The range opened at 8am, with a shotgun start at 9am and lunch served on the course. At 2:30pm, an awards ceremony, raffle and silent auction were held. In addition to competing for 1st place in the tournament, participants could also win special recognition prizes for being closest to the pin, having the longest drive or making a hole in one.

Sivin said, “…Our generous suppliers donated a great mix of premium wines and spirits for 1st-3rd place, long drive and closest to the pin. We also had plenty of raffle items and silent auction items that generated a lot of money as well.”

Next year’s tournament is expected to be even bigger and better. The official 2013 fundraising goal has not yet been set, but Sivin speculates upwards of $40,000. Stay tuned for more information on the next spring time tournament.
