The American Diabetes Association (Association), the nation’s leading voluntary health organization in the fight to Stop Diabetes®, announced a collaboration with Voxiva, a pioneer in interactive mobile health services, to help people living diabetes improve their health using their cell phones.
Voxiva’s Care4life℠ diabetes self-management program is now available as part of the Association’s Living With Type 2 Diabetes Program. The Care4life program combines the best in diabetes education content (reviewed by the American Diabetes Association) with proven evidence-based behavior change techniques to help people living with diabetes more effectively manage their condition. The program uses text messages, a personal online portal and a mobile website to engage and support users as they learn about diabetes and form healthy habits. Care4life delivers education, medication and appointment reminders, blood glucose tracking, weight and exercise goal setting and tracking, healthy recipes and nutrition tips, and a virtual coach to provide motivation.
“The Association is always searching for new ways to make diabetes management easier and more readily available to people with diabetes,” said Larry Hausner, CEO of the American Diabetes Association. “We are excited to add Care4life to our Living With Type 2 Diabetes Program as there are many people living with diabetes who will benefit from this personalized program.”
“By providing day-in-day-out support through cell phones, Care4life makes a real difference for people living with diabetes,” said Justin Sims, Voxiva CEO. “We are very proud to be working with the American Diabetes Association to offer Care4life to their members and beyond.”
The Association’s Living With Type 2 Diabetes Program is a free, yearlong program for those newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. In addition to the Care4life program, it provides a monthly e-newsletter, diabetes-friendly recipes, informational packets, three free copies of the Association’s magazine, Diabetes Forecast, and access to beneficial tools and information to help ease the adjustment to living with diabetes.
