Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes 2014

Step Out is the signature fundraising walk for American Diabetes Association. In just 20 years, Step Out has expanded to over 120 cities with more than 150,000 walkers nationwide. Together, we have worked to raise $150 million dollars, with $20 million dollars coming from 2013 alone.

Walkers of all ages gather together to walk or run to stop diabetes. Regardless of the city that you participate in, there are some common themes that transcend across every city.

Red Striders – A Red Strider is someone living with Type I, Type II, or gestational diabetes that participate in ADA’s events.

Champions – Champions are people who set their goal to and raise at least $1,000.

Team – Teams can be two people or two hundred. It may consist of colleagues, friends, or family members who joined together to walk for someone they love.

Individual Walkers – Individual walkers are a huge part of Step Out. Every step counts and we are proud of every walker that registers.

Step Out 2014 for our local chapter in Houston will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2014, with two locations going on simultaneously: The Woodlands and Downtown Houston. Opening ceremonies will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. with check-ins happening the hour prior. It is still not too late to register yourself or a team to join in on the walk! Even if you can’t physically participate in a walk due to being in a different city or prior obligations, you can still sign up to be a virtual walker. What’s stopping you from getting your exercise on for a good cause?

PSA: There is also a sweepstake called Pay It Forward with Step Out 2014 happening this year between December 3rd and December 6th. Check out the contest rules here. You can enter the contest yourself or donate to a walker to make them eligible for the contest. #payitforward #seasonofgiving
